Other national or Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO) endorsed data standards to facilitate the timely sharing of cancer data and information for decision making, improvement and research.Multidisciplinary meeting (MDM)
A cancer multidisciplinary meeting (MDM) is a regular meeting where health professionals from different specialities discuss and recommend options for a patient’s treatment and care. These meetings are a key part of the philosophy of multidisciplinary care and facilitate a holistic approach to identify the best available and most appropriate treatment and care plan for an individual.
Access to high-quality patient information is vital to inform decision-making during the MDM process. Consistent and reliable data enables health professionals to agree on clinical recommendations for the treatment pathway that best meets the individual needs of a patient. This is particularly important for Māori and Pacific peoples who experience poorer access, timeliness and quality of health care, which contributes to avoidable and unfair differences present in cancer outcomes.
In April 2021 a refreshed MDM Data Standard was released to the sector. This was reviewed in 2023 and is now waiting to be integrated into SNOMED CT before it can be published.
