Information gaps
CanStats includes a range of national (from central government agencies) and international cancer data tools. We recognise that there are still important information gaps in this space. We recognise that the national picture remains incomplete across some parts of the cancer continuum, particularly in the prevention, survivorship, palliative and end-of-life care spaces.
Te Aho o Te Kahu is progressing several initiatives to address known cancer data gaps. The CanShare programme aims to develop a national health informatics platform to enable the timely sharing of relevant, accurate cancer data. Within this programme, the Anti-Cancer Therapy Nationally Organised Workstreams (ACT-NOW) project focuses on improving the national collection of systemic anti-cancer treatment (e.g., chemotherapy). The Structured Pathology and AI-Assisted Structured Anatomical Pathology Reporting Pilot (ASAP) projects aim to improve consistency and visibility of national pathology data and to enhance pathology reporting and clinical coding processes. In the future we will propose initiatives under CanShare including data collection relating to patient reported outcomes, community care and radiology.
You can find out more about CanShare on this webpage or in these newsletters.
Te Aho o Te Kahu is also undertaking a Cancer Staging project to explore the feasibility of integrating multidisciplinary meeting (MDM) staging data into a unified platform.
